One Top, Two Ways

It’s amazing how unique everyone’s styling techniques could be. The moment I saw this MSGM top, I immediately thought to pair it with a skinny trouser or denim or a midi pencil skirt. Why? To me, I wouldn’t want to take away from the ruffled panel detail on the front of the top so keeping my look as simple as possible would be the best way to go. The So Modishly Chic (SMC) way.

Ruffling it to the top
So what do you think about the two styling techniques in the picture above? The first one is from MSGM, the designer and the second is from M’oda ‘Operandi, an online retailer.

I might be able to manage the second look if I have to tuck in the shirt. Then what happens to the detail on the front? Ummmh! This top is most definitely untuckable.

As for the first look, I will like to meet the stylist to figure out what inspired him or her? Who would take such a risk? LOL! I guess beauty is really in the eye of the beholder! Karl Lagerfeld was right when he said the following

“What I’ve done, Coco Chanel would never have done. She would have hated it.”

Not caring if it is for editorial purposes, I had a Coco Chanel moment when I saw the MSGM effort at styling. Each pieces from the jacket to the shoes are cute. Combining them is another story and I’m sure Karl Lagerfeld will disagree with me. But then the same Karl Lagerfeld said

“Trendy is the last stage before tacky.”

LOL! I’m not saying this is tacky. I’m just saying…what am I saying sef.” Hey, didn’t someone say style is what you make of it? Ok o. Biko (please), always dress like you are going to see your worst enemy. I didn’t say that, Kimora Lee did. I tell Jonathan, my better half and Crystal, my daughter this all time. Not in Kimora’s exact words but something along the line of…please look presentable dress to Walmart you might meet someone important. I can assure you they ignore my advice majority of the time. All I can do is not follow them to the store.

“I think there is beauty in everything. What “normal” people will perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it.” – Alexander McQueen

I will need to have an out-of-body experience to like that look Mr. McQueen. But hey, you are the expert. Who am I?

So I ask again…”What do you think? What is your preference?”
