Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is a leave-on lip mask that promises to moisturize the lips overnight leaving them feeling smoother and more supple when you wake up and all through the day.

So I thought until I bought the lip mask last week after craving this very popular piece for more than a year.

I love moisturizing my lips before bedtime and definitely after using a lip scrub. Aquaphor and Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) had been my go to products for keeping my lips moisturized overnight until my daughter introduced me to this Rosehip lip balm honey essence I bought in 2018. Thank goodness I bought ten because it was $1 each. Now they are no longer available.

When Allure featured Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask as one of its Best of Beauty award winner item, I knew I had to have it. Not that I trusted Allure because as far as I’m concerned, you never know if the reviews are legit or not. I wanted the lip mask because I like trying beauty products and also wanted something different from the petroleum jelly I normally use.

After almost a year of craving this lip sleeping mask, I finally bought the apple lime flavor last week Monday. I wanted the berry or grapefruit flavor but they were sold out at Sephora. After application, it only took two nights for me to realize that this product is not for me at all because I woke up on the second morning with rashes all over my lips. Obviously I’m allergic to one of the ingredients, maybe two or more and as usual I have no idea what it is since this is the second time I would react to a lip product. The first one was a favorite Gucci lip gloss.

Laneige is a rich treatment that has a softening balm texture. Upon application on the lips, you will notice this about it. It really does feel good and lush when you put it on. The thousands of reviews found online back this narrative up. I also found some negative ones but wished I had researched the product before buying it. What got me perplexed is the lack of details on the apple lime, vanilla, and grapefruit. Every website I visited only talked about the berry mix even the brand had nothing to say. The print on the box of the apple lime are so tiny for me to read. All I can come up with is that the apple lime, vanilla and grapefruit flavors are enriched with vitamin C and antioxidants. SMH!

How did I get rid of the rashes on my lips?

After running back to my Aquaphor for protection while waiting to see if the rashes would go away and nothing was happening for another two days, I decided to try Palm Oil. Yep, you heard me right. Y o, I was desperate! Palm oil has a medicinal value, according to what I had heard while living in Nigeria. So why not try it because drinking Benadryl at this point was not an option since I have to work during the day. Lo and behold, the palm oil cleared the rashes within another two days. I was so impressed. I remember going to prayer meeting with lips covered in palm oil last Friday and hoping no nosy person would ask me about it or smell it as I hug people. LMBO! Anyway, I have partially gotten my lips back. No rashes but they still feel a bit dry and tight. This makes me wonder if a plumping ingredient was added to the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask to begin with. This was not mentioned on the brand’s or any other website I visited. I will have to do more research on this to find out.

Recommendation

If you have lip allergies or have had some sort of a reaction to a lip plumping product in the past, I suggest you stay away from the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. There are other lip masks out there you can try out or just create your own.
