Hello! Last month, I saw how women especially in the fashion industry celebrated International Women’s Day. I wasn’t even aware there is such a day until I logged into Instagram and saw hashtags flying all over from bloggers from all walks of life acknowledging what March 8th stands for. Everyone looked pretty in their graphic tee outfits on social media and the fashion magazines did not forget to feature women that were doing great things to support other women.

So I began to wonder what majority of us ordinary women really do to support one another. If all you did that day was to post a picture and/or a ‘I appreciate all women across the world.” phrase, then you need to search your heart and do better. Choose to support other women with your substance no matter how small. Your substance could be money or time. It could be as little as $25 or 30 minutes or less. Support women initiatives. This should not just be about us looking good and showing off what we wear to celebrate that day but should really be about each one of us empowering one another. Let’s not just limit our efforts to hashtags or greetings only. With the current situation the world is facing right now, this is the perfect time to be there to support one another.

If you empower a woman, you will be empowering a family. When a family is empowered, a community is empowered. Through an empowered community, an empowered nation is established.

Here are two very simple ways you could support other women like yourself

1. Join Kiva – Kiva is s 501(c) U.S. nonprofit fueled by passionate people all across the world. All you need to do is lend as little as $25 to help people around the world create opportunity for themselves and their community. A coworker introduced this initiative to me and I have been hooked ever since. Visit www.kiva.org to learn more.

2. Look around you and identify a woman or women, depending on your ability, you know could use your assistance. There are women or a woman you personally know that could make use of your monetary support to start a business or simply need your guidance to do what you do. It could be something as simple as including someone in your grocery plans.

Bottomline, don’t be selfish, don’t be self absorbed. A power woman will choose to share the wealth. She will choose to share the knowledge.
